Why Is The Twilight Saga So Successful?

Like many other guys out there I have a girlfriend that is obsessed with the twilight saga. She has all the books and has read them at least six times over. I have to admit though I beleive it was all my fault. When the very first twilight movie came out I watched it one late night at work ( saturday nights as a projectionist at a cinema can be very boring) and to be honest I thought it wasnt all that bad. I didn't know it was part of a series or based on novels. I just thought it was a stand alone movie about vampires that was half decent.

My big mistake was mentioning it to my girlfriend who then went on to watch it and thanks to the internet realised it was in fact the first of a series of books by one Stephanie Meyer. That was it; she then went on to read the books and then she was hooked.Since then she has got her mother and sister in law and a few of her friends hooked.

So just why is the series so successful?

The vast majority of Twilight's fan base are female. As we all know you women love a good love story and I beleive this is the heart of where Twilights success lies. The books are written from Bella's perspective making it easier for the reader to relate to the character. Then theres the prince charming effect. The prince charming or prince charmings in this case are Edward Cullen... your average teenage vampire, and Jacob a big hairy werewolf.

So heres what I think makes it a winner even if I personally dont see the attraction.

Good story with plenty of action and romance leaves audience wanting more.

Characters that readers/viewers can relate to.

Vampires and werewolves and finally the icing on the cake for all you screaming females Robert Pattison and Taylor Lautner.

One thing is for sure, the Twilight sagas success is set to continue for as long as the series continues. The next installment  Eclipse will be hitting cinemas in the next month and its guaranteed to be a hit. Breaking Dawn the final installment is apparently being split into two movies. Enough to keep any Twilight Saga fan happy for the next 2 -3 years at least.
